Vision Research Workshop

The Department of Ophthalmology, Visual and Anatomical Sciences, is organizing its 12th Annual Vision Research Workshop on October 15, 2025 to highlight the research accomplishments of our graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research assistants/associates, residents and clinical fellows. The goal of this workshop is to provide an outstanding opportunity for the vision community on the WSU campus to interact with each other and exchange ideas for possible collaboration.

The Vision Research Workshop will be held at the Detroit Athletic Club in Detroit

 

Patricia A. D’Amore, Vice-chair of Basic and Translational Research, Dept of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School, Associate Chief of Basic and Translational Research, Ophthalmology Mass Eye and Ear will be give the inaugural Linda D. Hazlett, Ph.D. Basic Science Research and Innovation Endowed Lecture Series.

The Call for Abstracts from the WSU research community for work related to the eye and vision will open July 1, 2025. The deadline for abstract submission is August 10, 2025. Abstracts should be structured using the following headings: Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusions, and limited to 2500 characters including spaces, excluding figures and tables

 

Presentations will be judged by WSU faculty who are not involved in vision research, ensuring impartial evaluation. Prizes will be awarded to the top three presentations based on scientific content and significance, clarity and ability to address questions.

Please note: Due to space and time limitations, only 20 poster presentations and 8 oral presentations will be selected. We encourage early and high-quality submissions.

​

All abstract submissions will receive a confirmation email from Kresge Eye Institute. If you do not receive confirmation within 2 business days, please reach out to iciungan@med.wayne.edu.

​

We also invite you to submit an image from your research for consideration as the cover of our 2025 VRW booklet. The selected image will be honored with a special award.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Abstracts must be submitted via the “Submit Your Abstract” option below. The deadline to submit abstracts is 5 p.m. on August 10, 2025.

​

  • Abstracts must be work that has not been accepted for publication at the time of submission.

  • The abstract should include four distinct parts: Purpose, Methods, Results and Conclusions.

  • There is a limit of 2500 characters including spaces for the title and abstract body text.

  • An individual may be First Author (Presenting Author) of only one abstract. There is no limit to the number of times an individual may appear as a co-author on abstracts.

  • All submissions will receive email confirmation within 2 business days. If you do not receive confirmation, your abstract was not received and requires you to follow up (iciungan@med.wayne.edu).

Please indicate your type preference from one of the following three options:

​

  • #1 Oral presentation, #2 Poster

  • #1 Poster, #2 Oral presentation

  • Poster only

 

Presentation Guidelines:

 

  • Oral presentation will be 10 minutes, including a brief Q&A at the end of each presentation.

  • Maximum poster size is 48” x 36”. In addition, each poster presenter will upload a video recording of their presentation prior to the VRW. Judges will view the presentations in advance and will come to the workshop with questions for the presenters.
