About the event
Matthew Thurtell, MBBS, the Captain Jim and Donnita Gross Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa, with appointments in the Departments of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and Neurology. He is also Director of the Neuro-Ophthalmology service in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. He received his science and medical degrees from University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia. He subsequently completed dual residencies in Internal Medicine and Neurology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He completed a two-year combined clinical and research fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, with a special focus on diagnosis and treatment of eye movement disorders. He then completed a third year of clinical fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta. He has been faculty at the University of Iowa since 2010. His clinical practice incorporates the spectrum of neuro-ophthalmic disorders. His research interests include eye movement kinematics, diagnosis and treatment of eye movement disorders, and idiopathic intracranial hypertension. He has authored a textbook (“What do I do now? Neuro-Ophthalmology”), numerous book chapters, and has 90 PubMed-indexed publications.
