Anita Agarwal, M.D., is a Vitreoretinal consultant at West Coast Retina in San Francisco and Adjoint Professor of Ophthalmology at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute in Nashville. She received her medical degree from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India, and completed ophthalmology residency and fellowship training at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, India and the Universities of Florida, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia, USA.
Dr. Agarwal specializes in both medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases and uveitis and has a special interest in uncommon and inherited retinal diseases. She is the author of the Fifth Edition of the Gass' Atlas of Macular Disease and has coauthored landmark research papers on the genetics of macular degeneration. She has delivered several named lectures and has been an invited speaker world-wide. She has received a few awards including the 2014 Gass medal from the Macula society, Honor and Senior Honor awards, and Secretariat awards from the AAO, Honor award from the ASRS, and the 2015 Optic UK Lecture Medal from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
She serves on the editorial boards of journals: Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Retina, and Retina Cases and Brief Reports and is section editor for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Challenges of Retina.
