Dr. Berkowitz earned his MS and Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis. His research is aimed at preventing vision loss and blindness due to diabetic retinopathy by using prognostic functional MRI biomarkers that detect the effectiveness of a treatment earlier in the course of disease than is currently possible.
